Aswan to Esna Nile Dahabiya Cruise — 3 Nights / 4 Days
Overview
Sail the Nile the way it was meant to be experienced — aboard a traditional Dahabiya, far from the engine noise and crowds of the larger cruise ships. This 3-night, 4-day upriver journey with Egypt Grand Tours takes you from Aswan to Esna at a slower, more intimate pace, weaving between ancient temples, sandstone quarries, riverside villages, and quiet islands where the only sound is the wind in the sails.
Along the way you’ll stand inside the twin sanctuaries of Kom Ombo, walk through the falcon-god’s temple at Edfu, explore the rock-cut tombs of El Kab, and end your evenings with a campfire dinner on a private Nile island under a genuinely dark sky. It’s a Nile cruise built for travelers who want history, scenery, and stillness in equal measure.
This itinerary is part of our full collection of Nile cruise packages, each led by licensed Egyptian guides who bring every temple wall and quarry stone to life. Have questions before booking? Get in touch with our Luxor-based team — we typically reply within a few hours.

Tour Plan
Your journey begins with a private transfer from any address in Aswan to board your Nile Dahabiya. Once the crew welcomes you aboard, the boat sets sail toward a small island for a gentle walk through the quiet countryside — a first taste of the slower rhythm this cruise is built around.
After lunch served on the sundeck, you'll visit Kom Ombo Temple, Egypt's only double temple, dedicated jointly to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris. Its mirrored entrances, twin sanctuaries, and processional paths make it one of the most unusual temple layouts on the Nile. From there, the Dahabiya continues sailing to Gebel el-Silsila, the ancient sandstone quarries that supplied the stone for many of Egypt's greatest temples. You'll spend your first night on board, gently rocked by the current.
After breakfast, explore the rock-cut temple and quarry remains around Gebel el-Silsila before the boat sets off again. As riverside life stirs and the first fishermen head out for the day, you're free to relax on the sundeck and watch Upper Egypt drift by while the crew sails toward Edfu.
At Edfu, you'll visit the astonishingly well-preserved Temple of Horus, the falcon god — its inner walls are covered almost entirely in hieroglyphic texts, effectively forming a stone library of ritual and myth. The day winds down at a small, uninhabited Nile island, where dinner is served around an open campfire under the stars. Second night on board.
Sail onward to El Kab, the ancient city of Nekheb, home to temple ruins and rock-cut tombs dating back to the Old Kingdom. You'll visit several tombs carved directly into the cliffside, along with the surviving temple remains — a quieter, less-visited site that rewards travelers looking beyond the standard Nile itinerary.
The Dahabiya then continues to Esna for your third and final night aboard.
After a final breakfast on board, your Dahabiya journey comes to an end in Esna. A private transfer takes you to any address in Luxor (approximately 50 km north of Esna), bringing this slow-travel Nile experience to a close.
