Esna to Aswan Nile Dahabiya Cruise — 4 Nights / 5 Days
Overview
Trade the engines and crowds of the big cruise ships for the quiet pull of a traditional Nile Dahabiya. This 4-night, 5-day upriver journey with Egypt Grand Tours sails from Esna to Aswan, tracing a route past sun-cut sandstone quarries, riverside villages, Nubian gardens, and some of Upper Egypt’s most striking — and least crowded — temples.
Along the way you’ll walk among the ruins of El Kab, step inside the sand-buried Temple of Horus at Edfu, explore the rock-cut chapels at Gebel el Silsila, and stand before the twin sanctuaries of Kom Ombo. You’ll also pass through Daraw, once the final stop for Sudanese camel traders after weeks crossing the Libyan desert, before arriving at Koubania, a Nubian village wrapped in citrus and mango gardens on the edge of Aswan. Evenings unfold slowly — dinner on the sundeck, a campfire on the riverbank, and four full nights sailing under an open sky.
This itinerary is part of our full collection of Nile cruise packages, each led by licensed Egyptian guides who know these sites beyond the guidebook version. Questions before booking? Get in touch with our Luxor-based team — we typically reply within a few hours.

Tour Plan
A private transfer collects you from any address in Luxor and takes you to Esna, about 50 km to the south, where the Dahabiya's crew welcomes you aboard. Your journey begins immediately as the boat sails toward El Kab, the ancient city of Nekheb, where you'll walk among the remains of its temples and rock-cut tombs.
The Dahabiya then continues to a small island near Quessia, where it moors for the night. Dinner is served either on the sundeck or right on the riverbank, with nothing but the Nile and the desert horizon for company. First night on board.
Sail onward to Edfu to see one of Egypt's best-preserved monuments: the Temple of Horus, buried under desert sand for centuries before its rediscovery. From there, the boat continues to an island near Wadi el Shat, where you'll take a walk through small local villages and the surrounding desert — a glimpse of everyday life far from the usual tourist trail. Second night on board.
Settle into a deck chair and watch the riverbanks drift by as the crew sails toward Gebel el Silsila. Here you can explore the rock-cut chapels of Seti I, Ramesses II, Merenptah, and Horemheb, along with the remnants of the ancient sandstone quarries that supplied stone for many of Egypt's great temples.
Over lunch on the sundeck, the Dahabiya continues toward Kom Ombo, where you'll go ashore to visit the unusual double temple dedicated to Sobek and Haroeris — twin sanctuaries, twin entrances, and a layout unlike any other temple on the Nile. Dinner is served around a campfire on the riverbank. Third night on board.
The captain sets sail for Daraw, once the final stop for camel traders arriving from Sudan after a forty-day crossing of the Libyan desert. After a walk through the village and its camel market, the boat continues toward Koubania, a Nubian village near Aswan known for its lush gardens of citrus and mango trees. Fourth and final night on board.
After breakfast on board, your Dahabiya journey comes to an end in Aswan, with a private transfer to any address in the city.
